About the Opportunity
Currently, Southland Holdings is looking for a full-time Civil Utilities Foreperson/Site Supervisor to work on-site on our projects in Vancouver, BC.
Your typical duties will include, but aren't limited to:
- Reading construction drawings and blueprints
- Taking measurements off blueprints; figuring and shooting grade/elevations for construction requirements
- Recommending measures to improve production methods and equipment performance to increase efficiency and safety
- Assisting Superintendent in the planning and scheduling of the work of the crew, as well as possibly planning and scheduling materials and equipment independently
- Advising Superintendent of the needs for people, materials, and equipment in carrying out assigned tasks.
- Organizing crew, materials, and equipment to achieve the highest productivity and quality and lowest cost in line with the budget
- Recording and reporting equipment and material use, including work production and employee work hours on specified forms
- Continuously checking the work of the crew and adjusting the work or plan and schedule as required
- Keeping Superintendent advised of the status of work and recommending necessary adjustments
- Maintaining inventory of equipment and materials well in advance of the need
- Supervising, leading, and mentoring the crew
- Spending 100% of the time directly working with and supervising the crew.
In order to qualify for this role, ideally, you must have 5 years of relevant leadership and civil utilities experience, and a valid BC driver's license. Specific valuable civil utilities skills and experiences include:
- Ability to handle, fit and install drainage, sewer, water, and associated appurtenances
- Able to dig trenches to locate utilities by hand or using trenching tools
- Extensive knowledge of water, sewer, and storm drain systems as well as dry utilities and other civil-related projects
- Solid knowledge of pipe laying methods, practices, and procedures
However, individuals with less experience but who have a proven work record of skilled performance will also be considered. The right candidate must also:
